Calderon's Demise (also known as Calderon's Return [Part 2] )

St. Andrews Island, The Bahamas. The John Carco festival & masked ball are ready to roll, but this trip is strictly business. Crockett & Tubbs arrive with two plans for finding Calderon. A call was placed to the Argentinian’s contact informing them that the hit list is complete, and he’s coming to the Bahamas to collect his pay. A search of Mendez and the Argentinian’s hideouts had turned up a picture of Angelina Madera. She’s a teacher on the island, but what is she to Calderon? His wife? A mistress? Not even Mendez could tell them. Jimmy the hotel clerk seems like a nice enough guy, but Lt. Albury, head of the island police claims that nothing has been heard of their nemesis for months. Meanwhile, strolling on the beach, Rico comes across Angelina at work on one of her paintings and tries to strike up a conversation, claiming to be Richard Taylor, a gallery owner form Soho. A few moments back and forth, and Angelina picks up and boards a raft headed for a large yacht off the coast, but drops her watch in the process. Meeting up with Sonny, they observe the yacht from shore, and sure enough, Calderon is sauntering along the deck. Sonny and Rico momentarily spar with words, Sonny’s trying to convince Rico to keep playing by the book, but Rico is still contemplating revenge for his brother.

The next morning, Rico has the Miami Herald giving a faked front page story of the assassination of Detective Sonny Crockett, one tied to the string of seven drug-related murders in the Miami area. When Jimmy brings them a message from Calderon’s men, the plan is in place. Sonny goes to the meeting posing as the Argentinian, and shows Calderon’s representative the paper. But there is a discrepancy in the payment. No one informed him that Crockett was a cop, and their heads come at a higher price. Plus, the Argentinian has one more demand: Blood money gets paid in person, so Calderon must be at the meeting. Enough said.

During Angelina’s class, Rico walks in and returns her watch, trying again for a dinner date. Angelina seems to like him and accepts, but remains wary. Rico knows she has someone else, but begs her to give him a chance before she gives her heart away.

Later on, Sonny and Rico are driving back to town discussing the new developments when another car full of masked men attempt to blow them away. Dodging the gunfire, Sonny leads them on a frenzied pursuit through the narrow village streets, culminating with Sonny’s car going off a pier, and a bullet through the gas tank blowing it out of the water. Waiting for the gunmen to leave, Sonny and Rico surface and inform the newly arrived Lt. Albury that they’ll be leaving tonight. But in private, Sonny informs Rico of his suspicion. No one but the Lieutenant knew who they really are, so they must operate under the assumption that he’s blown their cover to Calderon. Rico rushes to tell Angelina that he must leave the island, but their dinner goes off as planned, though a little early. Rico and Angelina end up making love, and perhaps they could get even closer, but then Rico sees a picture of his nemesis on the nightstand, Angelina in his arms. Rico is floored by what she tells him--she’s Calderon’s daughter!

It’s pretty obvious that Angelina has no idea what her father does for a living, and Rico is suddenly saddled with guilt from using her to get to Calderon, which he admits to Sonny. But there’s no other way. Rico has plans to meet Angelina at the masked ball that night, and she will introduce him to her father. Sonny works out the plan to nail Calderon. Despite his having fallen for Angelina, Rico agrees. For Rodriguez’s sake, and Rafael Tubbs’s, Calderon must go down. At the John Carco Rico is spotted by Angelina and they dance together. But just a few feet away, hired thugs grab Sonny, switch his mask with one of them and drag him off to Calderon’s mansion. Rico discovers the switch and forces Angelina out of the party, telling her everything about her father’s life of crime. Angelina screams her denials until Rico describes the Bronx shootout that killed a New York cop, his brother.

In the mansion, Calderon and Sonny come face-to-face with Sonny at gunpoint. Calderon brags about how untouchable he is until he hears Angelina’s voice. She’s heard everything and he shoos her away, but Rico steps from the shadows, his shotgun unflinchingly aimed at his enemy. Rico barks at Calderon’s two men to let Sonny go. One complies, but the other tries to shoot Rico and there’s a struggle, Sonny wresting the machine gun from him. At that moment, Calderon draws and takes aim at Rico, but he’s not fast enough. Sonny fires first and Calderon is mortally wounded, slumping into the pool as Angelina screams. The local police arrive, with the dirty Lieutenant in custody. Rico tries to explain things to Angelina, but to little avail. Sonny and Rico get in the speedboat and head back to Miami. Sadly, the Calderon saga doesn’t die with him.
