Glades: Crockett and Tubbs aren't much
enjoying their watch over Joey Bramlette, a small-time dealer
scheduled to testify against his supplier, Enrique Ruiz. He gets a
disturbing letter in the mail brought in by Switek and Zito, and
just after they take over the watch, Bramlette disappears without a
trace. With the Ruiz case in the balance, Bramlette must be found
and brought back within two days. Following a lead, Crockett and
Tubbs descend into the only place where their witness would
go--Okeechobee Springs, deep in the heart of the Everglades. Posing
as tourists on a fishing trip, they meet up with a few rednecks who
claim to know Joey, but Sonny and Rico quickly learn a few things
about the Glades: There's no staying dry, there's no telling where
the moss grows, and there's no finding anyone who won't point a gun
at you! Very few people will talk to them, let alone believe their
cover story, but eventually they're brought under guard to a cottage
deep in the wetlands. There they find Bramlette with every other
smuggler in town, and the people turn friendlier once Joey ID's them
as cops. Ruiz's men kidnapped Joey's daughter Tammy, and the odds
are she'll be killed whether he testifies or not. She's surrounded
by about 20 Colombians, and there's only seven townsfolk willing to
fight them, plus Sonny and Rico. Sonny flatly refuses, saying it's
impossible, but Pops, one of Joey's gunners, knows that Ruiz has a
drop going down on the other side of town, which will cut his forces
in half.
Sonny and Rico recon the Colombians's hiding place, while
Clem, another gunner, fast-talks the time of the deal out of Ruiz's
redneck cohorts. Needing a diversion, Rico plans to open fire on the
drop. As darkness falls, final preparations are made, particularly
which team gets Pops and his Gator-getter (That would be Sonny's
team!). The shipment arrives at first light. One Colombian sees Clem
moving in, and opens fire. Caught buy surprise, the thugs at both
scenes are all but wiped out by the locals, except for Pops, whose
gun keeps jamming. The last druggie standing at the drop makes a run
for the house only to be tackled by Rico. One gang down, one to go.
Sonny drops through the skylight, confronting the loose-lipped
redneck holding Tammy at gunpoint. A moment's standoff and Sonny
blasts him in the forehead, with no twitching to fire his gun. Sonny
carries Tammy out to her parents, where the locals are tying up the
survivors. The only Colombian on his feet come out on the porch
aiming at Sonny, but Pops comes through and the Gator-getter blows
him away. Back in Miami, Ruiz is painfully shocked to see Joey
Bramlette strolling to the witness stand. Sonny and Rico relax for
the first time all weekend.
