Trust Fund
Pirates:
A yacht that
was inbound from Colombia is found adrift in the keys with the crew
massacred. Pirates after drugs is nothing unusual, but some high-tech
equipment is also missing. Switek and Zito have a fence named Jumbo as
a suspect in the equipment theft, but did he gun down the boat’s
owners? Crockett and Tubbs don’t think so.
Questioning
Jumbo goes roughly at first, but once his wife is disarmed, he reveals
that he paid a shady pilot to steal the coke, but found the crew dead
and the stash gone, so Jumbo was compensated with the gadgets. His
contact names Jackson Crane as the thief, who’s slow to help because
he knows Jimmy, the pilot from Trans-Love Airlines, and isn’t
interested in taking a bullet for them like his pal did. However, just
like Jimmy, he wants to get out of the business.
Apparently,
pirates are raiding raiding pleasure boats for money and drugs, so
Jackson is to contact them for ‘Burnett and Cooper’, and hire them
for a job. But for him to do so, they must take his girl Laney out on
the town. It’s no surprise to them that Jackson’s engaged to a
girl with a multi-million dollar trust fund. Later he must reveal the
pirates are rich kids from the Gold Coast who started raiding as
vigilantes, but now murder the boat druggies just for thrills. When
Crockett and Tubbs meet with the pirates, they agree to hijack a boat
and steal a cache of arms for them, but their one demand is that
Jackson be the go-between. Jackson isn’t happy when they accept the
terms.
Jackson brings
Laney to the airport with him, and once more begs to be let off. But
all are shocked when Laney pulls a gun and forces them into the plane.
Her brother Skip, the pirates’ leader, warned her he’d try to
chicken out. Landing at the meet, Crockett and Tubbs are unarmed and
in the pirates’ sights, but when the money case is opened, a smoke
bomb goes and Jackson uses the distraction to jump Laney from behind
and kills Skip with his flaregun. Crockett seizes the fallen
pirate’s guns and shoots another, while Tubbs takes Laney’s gun
and finished the last one. With Laney in cuffs, Jackson realizes
he’s been helping cops, and now they can help him leave the
smuggling trade. A fresh start is something he can ponder while flying
Crockett and Tubbs home.
