Miami Vice – Where Are They Now? The Musicians
Glenn Frey Biography
New Glenn Frey Album History Discography

Glenn Frey (Smuggler’s Blues, New Love, You Belong To The City)

Glenn Frey grew up in Detroit, MI and moved to California in the late 60’s where he began collaborating with Jackson Browne and Linda Ronstadt, and on meeting drummer Don Henley, the two founded the legendary Eagles, who recorded six albums and sold out concerts througout the 70’s. When the Eagles went their separate ways in 1981, Glenn launched a solo career beginning with the albums ‘No Fun Aloud’ (1982) and ‘The Allnighter’ (1985), which contained two of the three songs featured on Miami Vice, “New Love”, and from the same-name episode where Glenn guest starred, “Smuggler’s Blues”. Glenn wrote one more song for Miami Vice which only appeared on the soundtrack, the top 5 hit “You Belong To The City”.

After Miami Vice, Glenn released two more successful albums of new music, ‘Soul Searchin’’ (1988) and ‘Strange Weather’ (1991). Glenn tried to get into acting again in 1993 when he was cast in a detective series called “South Of Sunset”, but CBS never gave the show a chance, airing only one episode directly opposite two popular shows and guaranteeing its failure. Only five episodes of “South Of Sunset” were ever taped, and are in the hands of the music network VH-1, who aired them in November 1994 during their “Eagles Week”.

However, earlier that year, country singer Travis Tritt recorded a cover of the Glenn’s first hit with the Eagles, “Take It Easy”, and invited all five Eagles to appear in the video. This unexpectedly launched the Eagles reunion, which produced the ‘Hell Freezes Over’ tour and live album, which lasted for three years and culminated in March 1998 with the Eagles’s induction into the Rock N’Roll Hall Of Fame. Glenn hasn’t given up on acting, though. In 1996 he had a small part in “Jerry Maguire” as Cuba Gooding, Jr.’s team manager, then in 1997 he appeared with his old friend Don Johnson as a police lieutenant on ‘Nash Bridges’. The Eagles reunited for a New Year’s Eve 2000 concert in Los Angeles, and in 2003 they launched their “Farewell Tour”, but only time will tell if this is truly the last we’ll see of the Eagles.

Glenn lives in Santa Monica , CA with his wife Cindy and two children, Taylor and Deacon. His fans eagerly await a new project from him.
