Yankee Dollar:

Sonny’s bristling at hearing Rico carry on with his girlfriend on the phone at quitting time, but he has a date of his own tonight. Sarah Davis, a stewardess he knows, is flying into Miami tonight. Unfortunately, she seems pretty wiped out from overtime and the night ends early. But before Sonny can leave, Sarah screams and he breaks in to find her collapsed and spasming on the bathroom floor. She doesn’t survive the night, despite the emergency room’s efforts. It’s quickly revealed to Sonny that Sarah was carrying several balloons full of cocaine in her stomach. One broke, which brought on a massive overdose.

Rico tries to comfort his partner, but Sonny is determined to know why she did it. A little out of control, Sonny lays into a visitor at Sarah’s house who proves she was going to buy his car. So that’s what the drugs were for. She had almost nothing in her bank account, until a $5,000 deposit two days before. But then there’s another visitor, who tries to flee at the sight of Sonny. Caught between the cops and the ocean, he admits that he’s Tim, Sarah’s brother, who has no idea Sarah is dead. But when Sonny breaks the news, Tim shows no grief, only asks where her body is. Sonny loses it and decks the guy.

Under interrogation. Tim names the middleman, Charlie Glide. Sonny crashes a party as Burnett, where he meets Charlie’s assistant, Max Rogall. Sonny asks Glide to move a shipment of drugs for him, and he also wouldn’t mind an investor. Actually, they’re tapping a guard at the evidence locker to make it look like there’s 10 keys missing from a confiscated shipment. Now they have something for Glide to move. Meanwhile, Rico shows evidence locker money to Rogall, posing as Cooper and dropping the name Johnny Soles, a Jamaican drug investor. But before any decisions are made, Tim Davis surfaces that night in the river, gunned down execution-style. Sonny gives Homicide Glide’s name, but there’s no touching him—yet. Glide meets with Sonny again and sets up the deal for the next night. Stan and Larry watch Glide leave the money in the bank, but they check sees that some money is missing. That night Glide introduces “Burnett” to “Cooper” and reveals he knows they’re both cops, and they’re entrapment play isn’t going to work. But Sonny and Rico play their trump card, informing Glide that the money skimmed from the payment is counterfeit.

Now stuck, Glide is willing to deal. Trouble is, he won’t name names unless he gets a free pass. Agreeing, they get the name Lydia Sugarmen, who needs the capital to take over her late husband’s company. Sonny is incensed by Glide’s attitude, and almost loses it when he laughs about Sara and Tim. Rico agrees that he and Sonny will act as the runners. Over dinner with Mrs. Sugarmen, Glide gives up the supplier’s name, Zabado, a former Colombian war criminal and as Rico dances with their hostess, the deal is set for then next night, on the water, 1 A.M.. The deal goes down, but when their boat returns to the marina, the door beings to close, uncommanded by anyone. Sonny and Rico realize they’ve been double-crossed and dive into the water. They don’t surface until the boathouse blows up, killing all inside. Back on the dock, they grab Rogall and almost feed him to the gators before he gives up Glide, leading them to the real deal down by the river. They watch and listen as Lydia Sugarmen shoots one of Glide’s men, then he tries to tell her that the money and drugs are gone, along with Burnett and Cooper, who Zabado fingered as cops. The cops move in and the shooting begins. Rogall is the first to go down. Before it’s over, Sugarmen and the survivors are in custody. Sonny can’t touch Glide for setting them up, but Rogall left some things behind--his testimony and the gun that killed Tim Davis. Castillo orders Glide booked for Murder 1. Glide curses as he’s handcuffed that the cops are changing the rules. In a business like drugs, who isn’t?
