The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is composed of over 6,000 motion picture artists and craftsmen and women.
Walt Disney is the all-time Academy Award winner with 26 Academy Awards to his name.
The Academy Awards officially used the title Oscar for it's award in 1939.
In support of the war effort, the Academy handed out plaster Oscar statuettes during WWII. After the war, winners exchanged the plaster awards for golden statuettes.
